History of the Cotton's Wonder Bar
Carr McNatt and his wife, Elizabeth, moved to Casa Grande in 1907. Carr called the small desert town "a wide spot in the road," and Elizabeth later said she thought Casa Grande was "the end of the world". During their decades in town, the McNatts saw the community grow and evolve. During the 1910s, Carr was the owner of the Gilt Edge Saloon, and he later owned the Wonder Bar, which started inside the San Carlos Hotel and moved to Second Street. In addition, McNatt owned the first gasoline buggy in town, operated an ice cream parlor, and hauled rocks for Montezuma Mine. "Known widely as 'Uncle Carr', Mr. McNatt had that special quality that made travelers feel as though they were lifetime friends," his 1964 Dispatch obituary states. "He was one of the town's most beloved citizens and a one-man chamber of commerce." In 1964, the Casa Grande City Council posthumously named Carr McNatt Park after the pioneering businessman.
